For the uninitiated, MS Dhoni tied the knot with Sakshi Singh Rawat on 4th July 2010 in an intimate wedding ceremony in the picturesque city of Dehradun in Uttarakhand. According to reports, the couple in love met through a mutual friend and after a series of meetings, they fell in love with each other. After nearly five years of happily married life, on February 6, 2015, MS Dhoni and Sakshi welcomed their first child, an adorable daughter whom they namedZiva.

When Mahendra Singh Dhoni revealed why he chose the name 'Ziva' for his daughter

It was back in 2019 when Mahendra Singh Dhoni was invited to grace an event organized by Mastercard India after they joined forces to enable digital payments for small merchants. During the event, MS Dhoni was invited on stage and the cricketer spoke about many things. However, one topic that caught everyone's attention was when MS Dhoni started talking about his daughter, Ziva Singh Dhoni.

The cricketer was asked to reveal why he chose the name Ziva for his baby girl. In response to this, Mahendra Singh Dhoni said that he chose the name from the famous American TV show, NCIS. The cricketer shared that there was a female character named Ziva David in the show and he really liked it because it was a short name. The loving father went on to explain that it is a Hebrew name and that the meaning of the name Ziva is simple. Then he opened about the same and said:

"It (Ziva) is a Jewish name. It basically means light. We chose it from the show. There was a show called NCIS, I don't know how many of you have seen it. There was a character in it called Ziva. I kind of always liked them. liked short names that weren't too difficult."
